| They are all such good ideas. I tend to go toward the gift certificates, beause I know how I enjoy so many different types of plants, bulbs and seeds; and the joy of going through a catalogue, which is usually sent with the certificate, is absolutely heaven! It so much fun to pick something out that you don't have to budget in yourself. I feel like a child in a candy shop, and the best part is that it's paid for!

| I love to get and give plants and/or seeds, but gift certificates are wonderful, too!!
When I give gifts, I usually give plants or trees. Most of my friends are gardeners, too, and they love to get something live to plant. It's a lasting gift that grows with time and the love of a friendship.

| Here's a list of my favorites:
*Decorative flower pots
*Pretty vases for my cut flowers
*Pretty glass stones & decorative seashells to put in the vases. They hold the stems for arrangements or they look pretty if your rooting cuttings, too.
* Potting soil & compost
and of course plants, plants always more plants!

| You just gave me an idea for a gift I would like. Getting a gift certificate would delight me.
I collect seeds from my garden and around town and package them in those little florist envelopes and make pretty labels. I give them as small gifts. I am surprised how valued they are! Basically they cost me little and the labor is after all a labor of love.
I collect seeds when on vacation too. I try them out in my garden to see if things grown in other areas will grow for me. It isn't always successful but the few times I have success it is such a wonderful reward. Have a wonderful growing experience ...Chelana |

| I love to choose a plant appropriate to the occasion, for example this year I gave a former student and his wife a bridal wreath plant as their wedding gift. And though, catalogs and gift certificates allow me to pick my own gift I really enjoy seeing what the giver likes--because I can't imagine a gardener giving another gardener a plant he/she doesn't love him/her self! |

| Well I guess it would depend on the giver. I have many friends that I could buy plants for and vice versa. My DH, though he tries, doesn't know he difference between a daffodil and a dendrobium, (truthfully it is much worse than that.) so gift certificates are much safer for him. |

| I would just love a coupon book of "time" coupons from my able-bodied friends who would be willing to come and help me with my gardening chores that are too hard for me to go.
You know - 1 hours' worth of weeding... a day's worth of planting help... mowing while you are away... moving plants around for a day... trimming back your rose bush - that sort of thing. Wouldn't that be a great gift? I used to make those kinds of little "coupon" books for my mom - you could also include "good for 1 big hug" or "good for one home cooked supper" and really make it special...
I always loved making those gift coupon books and Momma loved getting them. She redeemed every coupon, too!

| My Brother and Sister in Law gave me a good birthday present of 2 plant society subscriptions. I not only get quarterly magazines with good info but a choice of seed from looong lists, many species unavailable to me under other circumstances. There are usually trips, exchanges talks, shows and local groups to join in with too, although I rarely attend them. I also get the chance to contribute my own seeds which helps to ensure someone will continue to keep the varieties going.
They did ask me which I already belonged to (which was easy since most of my subs had lapsed) and I gave them a choice so I wouldn't know which they choose for me. |

| A great gift would be Manpower, in the early spring.
But I voted for tools. The strange thing about me is that I have no issue with spending good money on plants, dirt or supplies, but I'm reluctant to purchase new tools. Fortunately, my family has no such reluctance. =)

| My fav is the gift certificates! That way you HAVE to buy plants! lol Like any of us need to be forced.
I was thinking though, and a good gift for a gardener that isn't on Dave's already would be a DG subscription! :) |

| I love gift certificates, but the best gardening gifts I received were those for my birthday last year. A tumbling composter and a leaf vac/shredder/mulcher. During the holidays, I usually enjoy getting encyclopedic books and an amaryllis bulb. |

I was born at the tail end of the year so yes, still a member ;) I was given the Cottage Garden Society and the Scottish Rock Garden Society. In previous years it's been the AGS, NCCPG and HSL all of which have been useful and interesting. I must renew a couple of them! |

| Its me again, I am just beginning to pick up the thread of this site.
I have to buy for my booth at the Northwest Flower and Garden Show in
Seattle. Coming up the first week in February.
It is one week of gardening heaven.
The item has to garden related.. It has to very cool, small enough to carry easily, good price point. and unusual.
Anyone have any insites. If its a hot item I need at least 500 to 1000
to sell during the show. Thanks for the help. If there is anyother
lonely small retailer out there who wants to bat 1000 when they go
shopping. I do great on the plant part of the business, but hardgoods and gifty stuff has been a like shooting fish in a barrel. I need to get better at buyng the gifty. Love ya.
