Fred from Alabama surprised me yesterday, called on his trip down. He banded a rufous male and rufous female at my house. He was on his way to band a potential first in florida, a broad bill ... about 15 miles from here, guess i'll find out in a day or two if it was a broad bill hummer. my sis was here, she got to hold the boy, and it peed in her hand as it flew off. He said the boy weighed more than any rufous male he had banded this winter, but he didn't know why.
