Here in Kentucky there are a couple of Shaker settlements that are preserved as historical landmarks. The Shakers were the first group to have a commercial seed production business, and it was respected world wide.
I have been trying to find lists of varieties that they grew to no avail. The curators of the KY settlements don't have any records of what the Shakers grew...and don't seem to care that they don't. They have been most un-helpful in my search.
The Shakers were meticulous record keepers and I feel that this information has to be out there somewhere.
I was wondering if anyone has any connection with any of the other Shaker settlements in the Northeast? Possibly there is a record of correspondance between the KY Shakers and them.
Where could I look, or who could I contact about Shaker history? Someone has to have access to their records.
