There must be many varieties of this plant. I have one and I am pretty sure it's in the same family but looks nothing like this one. The blooms on this one are beautiful. Am I wrong thinking this is the same family?

Thank you,
TJ

Hi TJ, Your flowers look like they belong to a succulent plant called donkey ears or mules ears. Does the leaves get wide and taper down maybe 6 or 8 inches.
The plant I have has a narrow leaf about 1 1/2 to 2 inches wide and at the most 5 inches long.
I have the donkeys ears also. The bloom is rounder. I know they both are in the succulent family. Maybe you can send a photo of the leaves on yours.

I can go out to the greenhouse tomorrow and get a photo of both of mine. Maybe that will help.

Thank you for the quick reply. My leaves sound as you describe, but are actually approximately 5 inches wide and taper down. They are an average of 12" long. When the blooms first start to appear the look like a big cluster of balloons and will all open at the same time when the all achieve the same size. Once blooms burst I can watch it for several weeks before it starts dying off. Thank you for your help.

Here is another shot of the leaves. If it blooms this year, I will get better picture of flowers. Never paid attention to how bad blooms look against yellow background.

The blooms on yours look like they are randomly placed. On mine the blooms hang from even stems.

On the mule's ear the blooms are round and on somewhat even stems. This is a photo of some small mule's ear babies. Off to the top left of the photo is some mother of thousands or what I call pregnant plant. They have a mottled color or dark pattern on them .The older they get the more the dark pattern fades.

Maybe you have a different variety than I have.
