How do you get your pink breath of heaven so beautiful. My boss has me take care of the gardening on our deck and I'm really starting to enjoy learning about all these plants. I've successfully planted (in pots of course) a lemon tree, pentas, mexican heather, begonias, a hibiscus tree, and purple hearts. However, I'm starting to get concerned about my rosemary and pink breath of heaven. The heaven is starting to look like medusas hair - scraggely, a little dry at the roots, and branching out everywhere. I read that the heaven needs good drainage. Should I add pebbles or gravel in the soil? We've had a lot of rain lately and I'm thinking that is hurting the rosemary. Do you have any suggestions for me?
It's hard to kill either the Rosemary or the Sweet Breath of Heaven so I wouldn't worry too much about them. Both need fairly large pots for their large root systems and good drainage. I don't think you have to add pebbles or gravel to the soil. Regular potting soil should be just fine as long as the containers have drainage holes. I wouldn't have them in anything less than five-gallon containers. I have one Pink Breath of Heaven in the ground and one in a container. The one in the ground seems happier and larger. Both of mine also grew long and lanky so I cut them back by half. They look kind of ugly for a while when pruned like that, but they eventually grow thicker and hide those blunt cuts. The one that I have in a five-gallon container is probably rootbound and always looks dry at the soil level. It doesn't seem to affect the plant though. Your Rosemary should be able to tolerate the heavy watering from the rain and will probably come through it just fine as long as the water can drain out of the drainage holes.
