Flowering Cabbage, Ornamental Kale, Collard, Cole Brassica oleracea var. acephala
This plant has a new sprout in March. It is disappointing to know that the Texas heat is just around the corner and the plant's beauty will be fading soon. (San Antonio, Tx.)
Too bad these can't be grown as long-lived perennials. I have never had success with them...winters too cold and summers too hot...bugs and caterpillars love to munch on them. Congratulations on yours, it looks great!
Actually these are planted in the landscape at a Mexican restaurant named Taco Cabana. This is a chain of fast food places. All of them are beautifully landscaped. I grew the ornamental kales and cabbages for several years and had not planted them for a while. Maybe next year. The heat gets to them here too. They survived and releafed fairly well one year.
