This plant is one of my favorites. It blooms profusely as shown in your photo until the first freeze here in San Antonio. Your photo captures ts beauty. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks. This was at the Heard Natural Science Museum and Wildlife Sanctuary here in McKinney. They have some high areas out there (not common up here) with almost Caliche and exposed limestone so it thrives. I am trying to find the perfect place for some for myself at the moment. I just don't have full sun or a dry enough bed. I don't want them to drown in our clay. I am working on it though. I actually have been putting aside the small limestone rocks that I occasionally dig up in my garden and I thought about throwing those in a raised bed I am going to put them it in. :)

Mine are in a native plant area outside of my fence that has the worst dirt, almost solid limestone a few inches down and does not receive much water. They are planted by the curb right next to the street asphalt and just love the heat. They spill over into the street and just keep on blooming. This area does not receive full sun during parts of the year. They do not grow well nor bloom profusely until they receive a lot of full sun. I would say that at least 5 hours of full sun would be the least amount that would be suitable for them to look their best. Good luck.

The area I have in mind is bordered by the driveway on one side, the sidewalk in front, and the brick wall next to the garage 18 inches back. It gets really dry there and it faces east with no shade until probably 1pm or 2pm when the sun moves above the house. I have Cross vine climbing up the brick wall so I want to it to fill in the front of it. I am probably going to try to pick some up this week and try it. Thanks!

That sounds like a perfect place for this plant. It will really look nice in front of the vine.

After work, I went to the nursery where I saw it last week and they were out. I should have picked it up when I saw it! I going to have to do some searching.

I know how you feel. I usually see a plant that I want to buy, but I go home and do a search on it to determine if it is suitable for my Zone. It may be a few days before I am able to go back to buy it after determining it will successfully grow here. Many times all the specimens have been sold and I want to kick myself. I hope ou are able to find some. Good luck!
