I enjoy watching the new growth on the ferns emerge. I am assuming you used the flash on this photo. It makes the fern really standoutout against the bleeding heart. I sure wish I had luck with the bleeding hearts. Yours are so nice. The fern with the dark stiff stems you gave me did well for a while, but looks a bit puny now. I don't know what I am doing wrong. I hope it does not die ... I really love it.
It was almost dark when I took the photo so yes, I used a flash. The variegated solomon's seal was taken at the same time. Some of the pics turned out pretty neat that night.
That was the Adiantum hispidulum with the stiff stems...yes it pouts a lot when disturbed. It will come back around and make some new growth. It loves humidity, moist but not soggy soil, and shade. I have let mine dry out occasionally and it really resents it. Allow it to make some new root growth and then it should start to send up some new fronds.
