This is a very impressive pineapple guava. I have one that is about five feet tall, and it is covered in blooms. I live in zone 8 in central Texas and I was not sure that it would be hardy here; however, it has stayed green year round for several years and is going great. It has not had any fruit and I was wondering if you have to have two for there to be any. It's a wonderful tree.
This tree is at Schumaker's Hill Country Gardens in New Braunfels, TX. They have it in a very protected place, and only one of them! Whether it has produced fruit, I don't know. I loved this tree - just beautiful!
I think you are looking at the picture in the foreground, which is not the pinapple guava - it's something else. Unfortunately, it was in the way of this, but there was nothing else I could do since I couldn't find a different place to take a picture.
The growth habit of this pineapple guava seemed to be like a crepe myrtle.
It looks to me like a pineapple guava hedge across the background. Are these the pineapple guavas, or is there supposed to be only one pineapple guava in the photo?
