The bluebonnet is the state flower of Texas. It is named named for its color and the resemblance of its petal to a sunbonnet. It is also known as wolf flower, buffalo clover and el conejo. Blooming in early spring, it is found in fields and along the roadsides throughout central and south Texas, as well as cultivated in landscapes. Shown in May. (San Antonio, Tx.)
