Is this a native Florida wildflower?
I live in Texas and I don't recall ever seeing

No, it is not a Florida native. I saw this while I was walking in the woods near Milwaukee, Wisconsin. There were so many of them together; they looked great in a mass planting!
I have read that they are native to western Asia and eastern Europe from Russia to southern France and Spain.
I wish they would grow here, but I think they grow best in zones 3-8. I have not seen any of them here, but I might try them one day. :-)
