I have a problem with my yellow crookneck. It is taking over my garden and shading my other plants, specifically some cantaloupe. Would it hurt the plant to trim back some leaves? It is producing nice fruit and I would hate to stop production, but my other plants are being shaded from the sun.
I don't think it would hurt if you take off a few of the lower leaves, I broke off some on mine when I cultivated a row of beets next to my summer squash (with the tractor). It didn't seem to slow them down at all, still producing faster than we can use them.
