I'm considering planting a couple of these in Asheville. Did your plant turn bronze or reddish in the fall/winter. Did it bloom for you this year? Thanks for any info.
Hi Peggy. Yes, mine did turn bronze, and yes, it has bloomed and has grapes. I'm amazed too, because it's out by itself where the winter winds can have their way with it, lol. But it's just fine.
I am fairly certain that this is Leatherleaf Mahonia or Mahonia bealei. It's leaves are thicker than aquifolium but has the similar flowers and berries. Prefers to grow in part shade to shade but will tolerate sun but with less attractive looking leaves.
