This is a picture of the leaf of the Amorphophallus titanum. They get just one leaf at a time. It looks like a tree, but it's only one leaf. They leaf out for a year or so and then it dies off and when they are old enough, they will get a flower, which you can see to the left of the leaf. The whole thing is a flower, when it flowers, just as the whole thing is a leaf when it leafs out. I had a blast going down to see this plant in person. UConn has a great greenhouse on its campus. I would like to visit again.
