Market was wonderful yesterday, we were so busy. It was unbelievably hot though and we drank so much water...it was just evaporating from us. I believe the temperature was close to 100 without the heat index. Surprisingly, we sold about 8 bushel of corn, 2 bushel of tomatoes, more cantaloupes than I can count and the same with watermelons. Sold out of green beans, yellow squash...and everyone wants tomato pie!!!

I expect I'll be making many for tomorrow's market.

We left the market and went home and ten minutes later, nature's fury let loose...totally unexpected.

We lost two EZ UPs that were up in the yard, some more shingles and a few flower plants, but many others had faired worse, much worse.

Our friends, Eva Jane and Jay King that sell at the market with us, lost a barn roof, part of the roof on their house, watched as a large chicken house let loose and came ramming into their house, and woke up this morning to find that a window in the casing had blown out and was on their daughter's bed. They all slept downstairs as there is no power, so didn't find that until this morning. As we speak, they and many others in our county are without power and phone service. We were fortunate and had ours on at 5:00 a.m. this morning.

We took a ride to Louisville today (we had to get two more EZ Ups for our markets!) and there is barely one house in our county left unscathed. Every yard has at least one tree down and many homes have trees on top of them. One customer lost almost their entire barn roof and one of the pharmacies in town lost their steel roof and it landed on the lawn by the side of the road.

To the best of my knowledge there have been no injuries, but so many businesses are closed without power and so many homes damaged.

Pictures to follow. Kathy
