Since bananas are tropical, I suggest plenty of heat (75-80 degrees F.) and light during the day and not below 60 degrees at night. Right away put it in a much larger pot. I trust this is a dwarf type - otherwise you may have to open a very large hole in the ceiling for it next year. I have a banana tree in my yard that is 15 feet tall and growing. I expect it will produce later this summer. It has already 3 pups so next year I will have a mini-grove. As you probably know, a banana plant produces one bunch of fruit and then must be cut down, so give any pups TLC for your next crop. So-called dwarf bananas grow from 7 to 15 feet tall. Plant in rich soil and feed and water copiously as the plants are fast-growers. WalterT-San Diego
No, actually I only have 1 dwarf plant and thats orinico. The vaulted Cielings are quite high though. I'll likely have to get some dwarf Ice Cream Banana plants and sell these when they get real tall. I've been told that you can control container growth by pruning and by keeping the pot size down.
Yes, I know they grow much faster then I expected, I have one banana tree growing here that shoots a new leaf out a week and the newest already grew like 4-6 inches overnight.
Selling Full size banana tree's in this area should not be a problem. Since silk ones at world market that look miserable go for like $120.
The grower that I purchased the plant from said they get to be 15 ft tall, my vaulted cielings are just a little bit above that, so I guess I'll see what to do when the time comes.
