Hi Poupic, one of the most beautiful botanic paintings ever published was of this flower, which was painted in 1800 as part of Dr. Robert J. Thornton's Temple of Flora, along with other flowers. The following website has these mezzotints in a form most amenable to filling your computer screen as background wallpaper (either singly or as slide show) and also gives fascinating details into the history of botanic art:

Beautiful site. I bookmarked it for future enjoyment.

Since this plate was printed the plant has been reclassified and judging from the plant stems appearance is not a true NBC (Queenie) by todays standards..

Still and amazing picture though .

Now I know how tulip mania took hold of the Netherlands in the 1600's. But I'm settling nicely for intense appreciation short of selling house, family, serfs, livestock, etc. for a choice tulip - er, cereus. LOL

I will continue posting websites for flower/garden/horticultural/barnyard/landscape/etc. art on the General Discussion forum. So many different forums relate to digital art, that the General Discussion forum seems a good place to keep it all together.

Hopefully, others will join in and share their knowledge.
