When we arrived at the market, our manager informed us that our dear friend & market vendor, Evelyn had passed away Wed. night. She died peacefully in her sleep. Evelyn was 90 years old & had attended market on Tuesday. She was known as the "onion lady".
She & her husband started growing Walla-Walla onions when they retired from active farming years ago. He died a number of years ago, but Evelyn kept the business going. Their farm is along State Hwy #169 that runs all the way to Canada to the north & Texas to the south. People from everywhere have stopped at their farm for onions & tomatoes.
Evelyn will be missed at our market!
Our manager, Liza, made up a sign board in memory of Evelyn & put it in her empty stall.
Saturday she is planning a memorial thing at the market.
Evelyn gave $10.00 a week from her market earnings to the local food shelf, so Liza is going to set out an container for anyone to donate in Evelyn's memory. This will be presented to the food shelf.
As for the market on Thursday, it was an average day for this time of year. Our partner brought apples for the first time this year. They sold out fast!
My greenhouse tomatoes still sold very good, even with a bunch of regular garden tomatoes around.
Happy Marketing!
Bernie
