This is the tub to shower conversion that a handyman friend of our's did for my mom and dad. Mom was using a wheelchair because of RA and it was too painful for her to get in the tub so our good friend (who lives in the basement and according to dad is better than a son because he fixes things almost before they break!) did this for them.
The tub was removed in pieces, courtesy of a sledgehammer.

Confession...I was just about ready to hit the hay for the morning when I thought I'd check the forums one last time. Way to go there, Kooger - you did great!
Like I said, that is one innovative way to craft a shower. Think of the possibilities. |

Here's some notes from Jim, the handyman.
Expose floor joists and plane them down toward the centre approx. 1 inch.
Screw 1/4 inch plywood on firmly.
Use solid vinyl flooring for walls and floor.
Use shower stall drain in centre.
Hang shower curtain close to floor.
He didn't mention what type of glue and caulking he used but I imagine any lino supplier could recommend the best for the job.
In pic #2 you can see that the vinyl is one piece from the top of the wall down to the floor and across the width of the space with the narrow sides slit on the bottom edge. Both narrow ends are caulked where the ceiling meets the floor.

I would have never ever thought of using linolium like that, what a great idea, and you have so many patterns and colors to choose from. |

I enjoyed looking at your pictures. I put in a four foot shower in our other house and wider than a bathtub, yours look like you stayed with the tub width. We have had to do the same here in our finished basement apartment. Because of too many other things going on we had it done by outside contractor. Left most of the original tile above and just added below. We are quite satisfied with the result but thank you for posting your pictures. |

Yes, dad stayed with the original tub width. Was a really nice size for helping mom as she got worse. Glad you're getting all settled in. |
