This was my second visit to the Sustainable Mountain Agriculture Center; I was there four years ago and things have really changed.

Katharine and I drove the good two hours plus for us to Berea, KY. I was
only able to spend part of the day, but certainly enjoyed it!
It was great to meet other folks who are growing Heirlooms. This was
my first time seeing BROOK and his wife Barb and their dog. We have
corresponded off and on for some time.

I have corresponded with LISA for four years and got to meet her and
Steve and the youngsters, Stevie and Lacy. The children were the
only ones there and enjoyed playing/exploring in the creek and
catching snakes and finding neat rocks. Lisa brought me fresh chicken
and duck eggs.

I have corrresponded with Toni but this was my first meeting with
her and her two sweet daughters. She makes a wonderful Lime Tart
folks, but nothing outshined her more than her gentle manner and her
knowledge on gardening.

Roger was the first person I met when we arrived. I had three
varieties of Heirloom Tomatoes for "show and tell" (Cherokee
Green, "Joe Thieneman's" Australian Heart, and Depp's Pink Firefly)
and a list of the tomatoes I was saving seed from. When Roger looked
at my list he said I have that and that and that. "I am thinking...NO
WAY" as they were recent finds I had made. Come to find out he is
friends to friends of mine and I had shared seedlings with them and
they had shared plants/seeds with him.

Gary Perkins was there as well and it was good to meet him; he also
lives in eastern Kentucky.

Big Red Boynton of Science Hill, KY and his lovely wife, Denise were there and we had an opportunity to visit and talk canning, gardening and tomatoes.Red was kind enough to grow some "Granny Cantrell's" German Red tomatoes and save seed for me. Thanks Red!

It was a long day for me but I would not have missed it for anything! Did
I mention there were seed exchanges? Well, I found several tomato
varieties I didn't have. Is that a surprise?
