Browsing the magazine section in the grocery store tonight, I saw giant deep blue/purple delphiniums in the back of a perennial border, I think in 'Perennial' magazine. They must have been 6-7' tall. Does anyone know what they are? I didn't buy the mag. and didn't have my reading glasses to see if they were identified.
Darius, Pacific Giant Delphinium (Delphinium elatum) can reach 6' to 8' tall. There are available in just about every color including some stunning blues and purple shades. They are easy to grow from seed. I think to get them really tall you would need to fertilize regularly. Mine regularly get to about 5' to 5 1/2' tall with only an occasional extra feeding of fertilizer.
