Okay- I love my daughter's hamster. I am the one who plays with it and feeds it...you all know the drill.

My daughter put the cage on the floor yesterday so I shut the door to the room alllll day because our little Jack/Chi cross thinks it is her puppy and I am always afraid that she will decide to love with her teeth. My Dave comes home from work and opens the bedroom door for ventilation. Next I hear Henrietta screaming and our Lab is playing soccer with the cage. Hammy is fine. Cage is upside down and a mess. So Henrietta starts cleaning up and I tell her that Hammy can get out if the water bottle isn't in the hole where it belongs. She comes down for dinner, Dave wanders upstairs. No Hammy in the cage. No water bottle in the hole.

The tears the heartbreak the searching the 8:30 bedtime became 10:00. Dogs get locked downstairs for the night, doors plugged with towels, cage left on floor with the door open showing Yummy New Treats. No Hammy this Am.

After everyone leaves me to my house for school and work, I go in the guest room closet where there is a small truckload pile of dry cleaning to be taken out. Next to it is a 5 pound bale of wool I use for doll making. I notice some fabric scraps and Hammy peeks out- nab her, give her a scolding as best as a hamster can be scolded and put her in her house and she falls fast asleep.

Fabric scrap source is my 1940's Women's Basketball jacket. She had the motherlode of fresh wool. Hammy is grounded. No running in the ball for a day.
