This plant lives a long time indoors. I kid you not, I bought one at a walmart garden center about 15 years ago and it's growing like crazy in a pot with weekly hair cuts.
It is also very easy to grow. It can even grow outside in Florida in my area. Can it do the same in your area? They are great as houseplants, but since they're not native and can quickly take over from zone 9b southward in Florida, I wouldn't plant them outdoors. They are already listed on the FLEPPC's Plant List Category Two for it's potential to become invasive in parts of central and much of southern Florida.
