Insect and Spider Identification
QueenB Shepherd, TX (Zone 8b) I decided to post this here, not because I needed a name, but for those who may run across one of these little guys in the future. The spines were a giveaway for me not to touch, but I couldn't help but get it on a stick and look it up! They're just too neat in person! :-) I found mine on a canna.
Brugie Chariton, IA (Zone 5b) Oh my gosh, I've never seen anything like that before. Thanks for posting. He/she is actually kind of cute.
TomH3787 Raleigh, NC (Zone 7b) They are cute, but if you ever make the mistake of picking up one of them you will regret it! Learned that as a small child - not all caterpillars are harmless. Those little hairy spines sting!
QueenB Shepherd, TX (Zone 8b) I got stung by some prickly green ones once...now I'm paranoid of any caterpillar with spines! My hand stung, itched, and swelled up for three days. NO FUN!
crestedchik West Monroe, NY (Zone 5a) WOW
I've never seen one with spines
its so cool looking!!!!
