Just kept a pretty close eye on them until they were nice and dried. I am doing the same thing with my moonflower pods over at my grandmothers house. I shake them and when I hear the seeds have released and rattle,I harvest, I shake the cypress pods also after they turn uniformly brown. I also had a smallish vine this year so it was not hard to keep up with. I let some of the seeds fall back where this years plant grew, I am hoping for a larger vine next year, as I am trying to cover up an deformed part of a tree.
