I think your plant may be Helenium pinnatifidum, not Balduina uniflora. Note the divided leaves, which Balduina does not have. Also, Balduina usually is a late summer to fall flowering plant, and Helenium flowers in early spring. I also think the ray flowers on Helenium are more deeply 3-cleft than those of Balduina. I will try to go out this week and take some Helenium pinnatifidum photos to post for comparison.
Xyris, I'd appreciate that. I've spent several years trying to properly ID FL natives. (Tough job, sometimes). I sent the pictures to ISB originally for ID verification and they never mentioned Helenium, but questioned B angustifolia vs B uniflora because of the location where it was found.
I looked up the Helenium pictures there and only the first and last pictures look like my flower but we all know how variable the flowers can be!
I'll wait for your pictures so we can get the PF right.
Thanks!
Stacey
I just went looking and I see what you mean...none of the Balduina foliage pictures match mine and there's not much on the web (except ISB) for the
Helenium and that doesn't look right either...
I really enjoy this plant. It comes back every year, doesn't spread and is oh so photogenic! Ü
