Has anyone grown okra in zone 5 or colder with sucess? I've had 1 season out of 3 produce for me and would like to increase the odds in my favor. I've just read about starting it inside for the cooler zones. But in the thread posted by Brooke I read that it doesn't transplant well. Now what will I do?

How tall and wide do your okra plants grow? Mine have always been kind of spindly thin - am I planting too close together? or is it the cool nights?

Your help and suggestions are appreciated - I would really love to have more okra as my hubby is a southern boy. I use it in stews and soups, and include it in my canned stewed tomatoes and sauces - when I have it.
