I happened by my favorite garden center in Chicago yesterday, a place called "The Farmer's Market" on Elston between Irving Park and Montrose.
They were very well stocked with Japanes Maples.
Here's what I recall:
-Bloodgoods, about 3-4' tall for $140, about 5-6' tall for $170, and a bunch about 8' tall for $400. The $400 trees looked mostly dead (dried out?) with only a few branches of live looking leaves each.
-green maples (Acer Palmatum?) in the 4-5' range I think for about $150.
-Tamukeyame (very lacy-leafed red variety)-- many many many in the 6' range for $299. A few in the 7-8' range for $399.
-"ribbon leafed"-- I think greenish leaves with red borders--- pretty sure there were some 5 footers in the $170 range.
Probably one or two I'm forgetting; there were also some very large (>8'?) non japanese maples. . .
Does anyone know of a good free appropriate source of pics?
There's lots of stuff at Gardenweb but posting links feels like leeching to me . . .
