This thing popped up last year and as you can see there is no sign of foliage around the plant. But after it quit blooming it did start to make the leaves, and it looks like it is in the monkey grass family. it has a monkey grass look to it except it has a faint stripe in the middle of it. It was actually one of the last things I had to bloom last year, and in fact it was after our first frost that I noticed this red flower growing !! any ideas ya'll??
Lucoris radiata or Spider Lily. It blooms in late summer or early fall. Then the blooms dies and the leaves put out in the spring. Then in early summer the leaves die and there is nothing but the bulb.
Magic Lily is Lycoris squamigera. It does the same as the Spider Lily.
The Magic Lily is taller than the Spider and is also called Surprise Lily. They multiply freely. Jim
