Being new to gardening I don't know the plants in my yard. Does anyone know what this is? Thank you.

MsMunchen as nice and helpful as you are to everyone I would consider it a priviledge and an honor to send you some. I'm running out of datura. Do you want some ginger. Mine is white and blooms late in the summer or early fall(probable all winter for you lucky Floridian's) Smells so good. Like honeysuckles. Email me your address and it will be in the mail. How about some tall and I mean tall black eye susan's. They bloom late summer and early fall and grow way over my head and I'm 6 foot 6 inches tall. The first year I had only one plant and I estimate it had 500 blooms at one time on it. I grow them in big clumps now and the good thing about them is I don't have to do anything but remove the babies and give em a way. I never have to water or fertilize. I always gather the babies before mowing and have 20 ar 30 that I was going to take to my daughter-in-law but I will have more the next time I mow. They reseed real heavy. Jim

Thanks MzMunchken and Georgia. I will take a picture if it blooms. My aunt from Tampa gave it to me and I have never seen the bloom open and she said she hasn't seen hers open either. We will see what happens this year.

A picture of the flower would help, but it looks a bit like Dichorisandra thyrisflora (aka Blue Ginger). If the flowers aint blue - I pass.

Every time she hits those keys out will come a joke.

It does look like a ginger to me too...Costus..the spiral ginger? Anyone agree? I have one (which has never bloomed in my winter-sun-deprived Wisconsin home...but continues to grow fantastically!) and yours looks quite similar to mine.
