Hi marshseed. Any information you can give me on this. In particular how hard to root because I am going to swap the information on what it is for a cutting or a rooting. Thanks for the response. Jim

the plant is an Epiphyllum which grows in South Africa as a weed but is native to central and South America where it grows on tree trunks and branches but isnt parasitic. the best compost is an open one with plenty of leaf mold.

rooting a piece is sooooo easy. cut off half a leaf and let the cut dry for a few days. insert the cutting half way into a free draining compost. they can be slow to root so be patient.

the only one I know of that flowers at night is 'Queen of the Night'. one flower can fill a whole house with scent. on the down side each bloom lasts for less than 24 hours. the flower opens in late afternoon and is on it's way out by mid day the following day.

Sounds like a beautiful flower. I am most impressed by flowers with a strong intensely sweet fragrance. Seems a lot of plants out of South America fit that bill. Short bloom time per flower similar to a Hemerocallis as well. I personally think the flower is pretty as well, but then everyone knows my idea of pretty is based mostly on fragrance. When are we going to get a scanner for fragrances in here?
