I keep reading in the descriptions of "Perilla Magilla" that it is 'not a coleus but a perilla' 'fool the experts', but I question that. Perilla is a true annual, (isn't it?) so it seeds and dies, period. Coleus is a perennial, even if it is killed by cold, it would live for years in a warm environment.
So I'm thinking that if there *is* any perilla genetic involvement, 'Magilla' must be one of those rare inter-generic (descended from parents of a different genus) hybrids.
To me then, it is neither coleus nor perilla, but a new designant all around, if in fact perilla is involved, other than possibly a poor choice in name.
Is there a site where a botanist discusses "Magilla" without the flower industry hype?
raydio.
