A titmouse is destroying my house. I don't know what he wants or how to stop him. He is pecking at the windows around the sashes. He has cut open 2 screens (like a can opener going around the edges). Even as I type this, I can hear him out there pecking away.
The behavior does not seem like that of a bird "fighting" his reflection. His efforts seem amazingly focused around the edges of the windows as though he is litterally trying to break in. I have gone to the window numerous times to scare him away. He does not seem to be particularly afraid of me. He moves about 3' away to a nearby bush and glares at me. I've even opened the window to fuss at him, but all to no avail. When I leave he resumes his mission. Several times I went outside to scare him off. That doesn't work either. Sometimes he goes over to the nearby feeder, and returns with a sunflower seed in his mouth. Today he brought a friend with him. I actually think that he wants to build a nest (for winter maybe) in the safety and shelter of my house.
Help. Does anyone have any ideas on how to deter him? I've threatened to get my gun and use him to flavor a nice pilaf. I need he-l-p!
