Newbie here! What a glorious forum and I am thrilled to be a member. There are so many different forums on DG that interest me that I don't know which to read first!!

I started composting last year and am hooked! I live in an area that has that lovely gumbo and know that you either dig it out or amend it. I have decided that I "need" a chipper/shredder to speed up the composting process. I have read all of the threads on the chipper/shredder subject that I could find and have determined the following:
1. Don't go under 8-10 HP
2. Mackissic is the most popular brand based of forum members
3. OPERATE WITH CAUTION!

After reading and deciding that I could probably get by with such-and-such model, I would read something that would turn me off about it, i.e., jamming, needing to purchase smaller screens, "pushers", dealer not close by, etc. etc.

So here I am, seeking the advice of my new forum buddies. Here is what I would need from my chipper:
1. Shred weekly yard debris such as leaves, grass and garden trimmings, INCLUDING SOME VINES for compost pile without constant jamming.
2. Occasionally chip small tree trimmings 2-3" or less
3. Yard is not large, but I do accumulate quite a bit of trimmings PLUS I pilfer neighbors trash bags out at the curb that contain grass, etc. for my compost.
4. Affordable - As much as I'd like to say that cost isn't an issue, it is. :(

I appreciate any advice that you care to share and look forward to your replies.
