I finally figured it out after I read the explanation, the signs on all the possible answers are all the same, but they change to a differnt sign every time you click on the ball, so they keep you confused if you don't know the trick.
I did try looking a any one of the numbers and the sign next to it at random, without doing any addition, and then clicking on the ball, and of course it did't show me the correct sign, it only happens when you follow the preset pattern. Very clever.
