| Cool Beans! I've had 2 Jotul woodstoves and one Morso. Love the jotul's although I lust after the top of the line porcelain cast iron woodstove by Vermont Castings! |

| Thanks! We have a Vermont castings wood stove in our kitchen! And we love it! It will heat our whole house with the help of our ceiling fans. Our downstairs consists of a very large kitchen/dining area, utility room, hallway, bathroom. Then there is the living room, den, enclosed front porch, and one bedroom. It keeps all of these rooms more than comfortable. If we leave the upstairs door open, (which opens out of the kitchen), it will also warm the upstairs..which is 3 bedrooms.
Thank God for a woodstove with today's propane prices!! |

| We just had a new gas heater put in a couple weeks ago. It's beautiful and heats the living areas well without having the furnace come on to heat the whole house. Can't show a picture of it in action right now as the repairman isn't due till later this afternoon. Seems it got tired and quit. Hope it only needs adjusting. Click the image for an enlarged view.

| Here's my current stove (in storage), Vermont Castings "Vigilant"... the Folk Art painting was added by a previous owner. The stove needs new gaskets and re-blacking whenever I get it installed. (I have 2 sets of legs, too... just not attached right now.) Click the image for an enlarged view.

| Love your dragon Darius. Looks like that baby will throw out a ton of heat. Be nice when you get to a place you can put it to use.
The repairman just left. Seems the flame around the thermocouple was "ghosting" and allowed thing to think the pilot light was out, shutting off the gas. In the process he broke the glass frontspiece so we is wit out it till friday. |

| Robert...the flame around your thermocouple...was it too high or low? or not directly on the sensor? That might be what is wrong w/my g-house heater...pilot lite won't stay lit...and I just replaced the thermocouple.
Did the service man say anything about how it's supposed to look? Flame size, position, etc?

| Shoe, apparently the other night when we had gusty winds the flame was 'shifted' away from the thermocouple long enough to cause it to shut off. Repairman said it takes only one second for that to happen. He is making a shield to prevent (?) it happening again. That could be the problem with yours as well too I guess.
We had a pellet stove where the new gas stove is now. It was very good, had to open it up frequently to vacuume out the little bit of ashes. It is still in use at the cabin. Hadn't heard about burning corn in one though.
Personally I think corn is put to better use making bourbon. |

| greetings from north of hastings, michigan
we just got an almost brand new Magnolia wood stove from tractor supply.
it seems someone bought it to heat their pole barn, and it didn't do the
trick. (well, duh!) they returned it to tsc, and the manager of our tsc told
us about it, DH went to Portage and picked it up. (with help). Its
gorgeous. we cleaned it up, I cannot believe that TSC gave this guy a
complete refund when the stove was returned in such a uncleaned state!
Sheesh! And it had a rust spot on top too from a kettle. We unblacked the
window, aired and dusted the bricks, swept it out, and metal brushed the
rust spot. Theres a little creosote around the nuts and bolts, but its like
new now.
It seems it will cost us about $1000 to have it installed. I can't wait!!!! We
have some woods, and lots of downed wood, and some Percherons,
so they can earn their living now dragging the logs home for us. I will let
everyone know how the installation went. I see that there are many different
clearances for installation. This has a good back shield, so I am thinking that
the correct clearance is about 10" or so. I will call the zoning and planning
just to make sure also.
Any ideas about an underlayment? Tiles or bricks or what? We are ripping
out the rug so we can basically do anything underneath the stove.
It has such a nice wide top great for cooking on.
take care all!

| Does anyone know of a cleaner for the wood burning stove glass door that will somewhat help it from getting brown and black and me having to clean it everyday? I'm using a product with silicone in it, recommended by my fireplace store but still having to scrub everyday. Thanks in advance

| I am not familiar with corn burning but it sounds cleaner in all aspects than wood burning. I have owned and installed my-self four previous woodstoves. I ve had a effel, a morso ll25, 2 vermont castings and now just had a VC winterwarm large wood insert put in w a lot of my assistance. I am having problems with it drawing too much air and cannot get response from the seller, distributer or the company. They are no longer in Vermont and have a new nonresponsive owner. Any help? I d burn corn but I own a tree service and have unlimited wood supply. Thanks if anyone can help. |

| stoker, a hearty WELCOME TO DG! Come on in and sit a spell!
It sounds like your stove either has a door gasket that is not sealing correctly or, most likely, the draft is not closing. (The control knob that regulates the temp usually has a chain running off of it to a draft "flipper" at the bottom of the stove to allow air in; sometimes that chain slips off. If so, just hook it back up (might have to pull off the front panel, if any, to get to it).
I'm not up to date on your woodstove and how it is built, but that is what I'd look for first.
Again, Welcome!
Shoe.
