Terry,
I'm sure you are busy, but how does this forum work? Do we link to our diaries or ?

We could link diaries, or we could put our user name and location as the subject line and each have our own thread. I'm not sure how else to do it.

I'll wait to see what to do. I don't have anything to tour, but suggestions would be much appreciated. I don't want to buy plants without some sort of plan in mind.

If you have a specific "tab" within your diary that you would like to invite people to, you could post that link, being sure that your thread title is more specific. I have a number of tabs (I think of them as books) in my diary, not all are tours - wait a minute, I don't really have a tour yet, because of some computer problems. :-( But I'm working on it!

If you do post a link, either to your diary homepage, or to a specific tab in your diary, be sure that you first navigate to the page as though you are simply a member looking at the diary - as opposed to the member who is working on the diary. Otherwise, the link won't work properly.

Example:
this link is to my diary homepage, as an "outsider" looking in
[HYPERLINK@davesgarden.com]

this link is when I have clicked that I want to "manage your own diary"
[HYPERLINK@davesgarden.com]
If you click on that one, it will probably take you to your own diary, to be worked on.

Another thing, just for clarification. When you are in your diary, working on it, the entries within a tab will appear from the most recent date at the top, to the oldest date at the bottom, or reverse chronological order. Multiple entries under the same date will be from the first one you entered, to the last one. (Remember, you can edit the dates of the entries any time you want.). But when you are viewing a diary, the entries within a tab will appear in chronological order, the oldest date at the top, to the most recent date at the bottom. Again, multiple entries under the same date will appear in the order that they were entered.

Did that just confuse everyone?

Good luck, and let's have fun!

maggie, I really don't understand 'links' or how to use them. I'm in the dark as to how to open one or more of my tabs for review and/or comment. Is there an answer for a computer illiterate such as I ?

balvenie, here's a link to some tips on creating a hyperlink: [HYPERLINK@davesgarden.com]

Maggie's made a very important point - everyone's diary has two "views":

1) The first view is the way it looks to you when you're adding to or editing your diary. When you go to the journals tab and click on "Manage your own diary" (or journal), this is the "view" that only you can access.

2) The second view is the "public" view - what everyone else sees. When you're ready to post a link to your diary here, be sure you go to the Journals tab, and click on "View other garden diaries". Find your diary and add your hyperlink to a new thread here (refer to the FAQ link above if you need help to copy/paste a hyperlink.)

balvenie, you can do it! Once you've done it a couple of times you'll be amazed how easy it is.

Another way to get to the "public" view of your diary is to go to your own page (My Info), and click on "Read (yourname)'s Garden Diary".

I basically entered the tabs(catagories) and then elaborated from there. It really is easy to get in and work on it from journals. I do check to see how it looks from the outside - my info - is how I check that. The one thing I have to get used to is that the tab bottom for me - is actually the top of the page for others.

Oh, but fireant, you still have lots to offer! It isn't just the pictures, but also your "stream of consciousness" in the diary - whether accompanied by a picture or not - that helps us get a grasp of what's going on, how things are evolving, your thoughts about changes, etc. I enjoyed a walk around your front yard very much!

First, go to the page you want to direct us to - it might be the "homepage" of your diary, or a specific tab. Just be sure to go to the "public" view (easiest way is to click on your own name to get to your homepage, then click on "Read fireant13's Garden Diary".)

When you're at the page you want us to start, simply click in the address bar of your browser (or otherwise highlight the whole address), right click, and select "copy".

In the body of your post, right click and select "paste". Just be sure that there is a space before the link and after the link. When you preview your post, click on the link to see where it takes you (it will open a new window.)

Good luck!

I think I've got it. My daughter's computer is a laptop, so the click thing is awkward. I just highlighted the address and dragged it outside the site to the background screen. Then I dragged it back onto the text box. I hope it works.
