| hiya guys. I'm thinking that this is kind of the way we might start it out and then fine tune as we figure out the best ways to have others visit our tours, and have a thread to discuss things. I'm sure others will come in with better ideas and we can certainly evolve as we figure out the most effective way to utilize this forum.
All are invited to Sunsprite Ranch and our gardens...Our tour is still in progress, but I'll keep on adding stuff. Just click on my name and it will take you to my homepage and then to my diary.
the very best to all of you,

| What a wonderful place! Wanna come build me a fence and a ramada?
I love what you did with the lighting... I've through about putting in either low voltage or solar, but I don't like the looks of most of the lights. You're giving me great ideas :) |

| hiya guys,
I think that one of the great benefits of this forum is that we can all learn from each other's mistakes and successes as well as be inspired to do similar things with our own creative twists. The reason this forum exists is so that each of us, in our own ways can document the evolution of our gardens while sharing that evolution with our DG friends. As some time passes and we have had some time "in" each others gardens I think the familiarity will allow us to ask questions like "Hey bigcityal, how are those Echinacea doing this spring." Or "Maggiemoo, can you show us a pic of your arbor with the lights on?" Or "Please balvenie show us MORE..." Get it? I of the opinion that once we all get these things 'tours' all caught up, we'll be sharing all kinds of information we hadn't thought of before with other gardeners who's opinions we can respect because we've seen their work.
I'm so jazzed we have this thing.
best to you all,

| I've spent a lot of time this morning going through several of the tours that have already been set up (shhhhh - don't tell my boss im DG-ing on work time).
I wholeheartedly agree, Don. There's a lot of info on here about specific plants, etc, but the main reason I garden is for the big picture. The line of the beds, the colors up close and far away, what blooms with what, etc. This is a great way to be able to see what others have done, and how things play together.

| drdon wow. You have a large area that must keep you going year round. Love the creative fence and bench. It must be wonderful on the bench in the morning. Does this face East? Kind of looks like it. You must live an quite a hill with all that back drop desert. I want you to find Mr Ed and get your stud to start talking. Pia Zodora is hot. Or was. Haven't seen her lately. |

| drdon,
Your pics are beautiful. You and your wife have done a wonderful job. I had seen pictures of your fence before and really admired the artistry of the design. (Why can't I have a neighbor like you, lol)
Also, the orchid collection is stunning. Your masdevallias are stunning!! I am jealous!!
I have been looking at pics of those for years and everyone says they are too hard to grow in our heat and humidity.
Great Job!!

| Doc,
I'm sorry I put this off, I had looked at it in the earlier stages.
Anyway I have some comments on your tour.
*I love the orchids - do they stay in their house all the time or can you move them out in warmer weather or are they for cut flowers?
*Historic architecture is a hobby of mine also. I have to settle for greek revival or federal as old for me.
*Your hacienda bench is beautiful, projects like that are living reminders the rewards of hard work
*The short wood fence is very nice. How rural is your ranch - do you have neighbors?
* My daughter would love Elliot, she has to settle for beyer horses.
Keep up the good work - no dahlia yet ;(

| hiya Al,
thanks for the kind words amigo. Just send her over for a week, Elliot and the other 29 horses here would love to meet her. March and August this year are foaling months. Those Breyer horse things are like Barbie dolls for girls who like horses. I'll send her a pic of Elliot and a lock of his mane.
We are pretty rural, about 1.25 miles from the nearest paved road.
The orchids live in the greenhouse year-round. They are all species orchids and I do my best to send seed (when I get it) to friends in the countries of origin to help in re-establishing them in their habitat.
I love Greek revival, but have a soft spot for Greek original...lol. I truly love ancient architecture and we should have a conversation about that some day.
dmail me about dahlias amigo,
best,
don

| DrDon,
I have been catching a bit here and there of your garden tour page. I love the plants especially the way you developed the cactus garden. Your orchids have outgrown the green house I think! LOL! Oh, and the fence was a beauty to look at. I am sure when the roses are in bloom it is twice as great. Thanks to you and Pam for sharing your space with us. |

| Drdon, you didn't let on that you had a greenhouse! Stop by the greenhouse forum, I'm trying to stir things up a little bit over there. Lovely orchids.
Question: are the overhead nozzles for irrigation or for misting/cooling?
I, too, love the Ramada. This might just be part of the solution to my problem... |

| OK Don I got two screens open to go over this.
I'm looking at your dahlias with awe and making comments,
Tree dahlia is an amazing specimen - you stake that somehow
BA white and yellow are great - those plants seem to be unware of the mass they create to take care of
Unknown- what a color sure look like it has Llandoff blood in it - very nice
Blacktus is one of the darkest cactus types I've seen!
The unknown anenome type I would think might be IDable - not as common
Schmactus is nice - have to get pooch to id that one.
Excellent work thanks for adding it - that's it for now,

| Hiya,Dr.Don - I just revisited your diary. Gotta tell you - those dahlias are delicious looking ! I drooled over the wine cactus one and the deep orange ! I have tried growing them here but had no luck. Guess I have to stick to daylilies!
Say, how is "Pedro" ??? Sure is a fine looking chap ! He would need a sombrero (don't know how to spell it !) here in the south ! Maybe a kerchief ,too. Guess your heat isn't as bad up there.Glad you rescued him and registered him. That means he has his green card now, huh? That is a touchy subject, so I'd better drop that ;-) Just kidding around.

yep, he's a legal endangered species alright...lol.
The dahlias should be three times nicer this season as more than 50 new ones have been added to the gardens.
best to you, and I've enjoyed your tour greatly,
