| We currently use an old waterbed from when I was a teen. (The matress has been replaced several times due to the fact that we have cats.) This is the "old school" kind of waterbed with just water in it. No baffles, no springs, no foam side supports..just a big water filled tube. lol The older I get the my body tolerates this less and less.
I recently told my DH the waterbed has to go. So we have been shopping for a bed and matress. We have come to a decision on a matress that we can both be happy with. The bed is quite another story. I like a very nice wood framed bed for just over $600. which I still think is too much money. My husband on the other hand wants this admittedly beautiful but WAY overpriced bed designed by Bob Mackie and manufactured by American Drew Furniture. See it here: [HYPERLINK@www.americandrewdigitalcatalogs.com]
Now I don't even want to get into how much the bed is but let me just say I cannot get past the price! DH keeps telling me this is an investment not just a bed, but no matter how I try I cannot bring myself to agree. Is this one of those "pick your battles" kind of things or "stand by your decision kind of things?" What would you do? lol

| Jos...
You have a space in your URL...take the space out and it's works. The space is near the end.
Yes, I don't know which bed your DH likes, but the ones that I looked at were great and did look expensive. Have you looked around much?
What I would do? I would look around and then if it was not taking bread off the table, go and splurge. As far as an investment...no. new furniture does not last like the antiques and your taste will changes as you age. but as I said, if it won't harm your budget, go for it.

| Thanks for the reply Hap. I am not sure what is happening with the link I am posting because it does not have a space when I post it but oh well. I wonder if it will work if I don't post it as a link? Maybe you can type the www and copy and post the address if you really would like to see it. americandrewdigitalcatalogs.com/BobMackieClassics/Documents/BobMackieClassics_01_Full.asp
We actually we have looked and looked and he was really wanting to splurge on the bed of his choice. Somehow I have convinced him that saving $1300.00 and going with something very nice but somewhat more affordable was the better choice. Not to mention we will only have to wait a week for delivery not 6 to 8 weeks.
In the end we did not pick the one I suggested earlier or his choice of the Bob Mackie bed. The one we ended up with is really a compromise on both parts. It is a sleigh bed but pretty detailed and has leather on the headboard. When it is delivered and set up I will post a picture.
I cant wait! |

| The bed I saw was gorgeous. If your husband wants to go for something expensive, I would. It's probably very comfortable and well made. Can your old frame go in a guest room? I don't let myself go overboard either, but sometimes you are glad you did. |

| The links worked for me just fine, all of them. Gorgeous bed. I'm in the market for new furniture myself. I just bought a house, and the K Mart special/used furniture store/hand-offs just aren't good enough anymore. And I want a new bed. Mine was a used futon platform twin. I want a nice full size bed.
Money's a problem, though. |

| Wow, that is some bed, something a man would definitely go for with all that leather! We have a newer waterbed with the separate "bladders" so you can adjust it to your preference, I like it a lot.

| I prefer a latex mattress myself. There are some comparisons at [HYPERLINK@kwikken.com] between tempurpedics, sleep number beds and others. I thought it was helpful. |

| The trouble with latex is some people are allergic to it, and it's a sensitizer, so even if you're not allergic to it at first, you can develop an allergy to it if you expose yourself to it regularly. |

| In reference to Clark's "evenings are more hot" above...I"ll just say the memory foam mattresses are NOT conducive to a "hot" evening unless you are talking about the temp. Remember the ads where the bed--even with a glass of wine on it--doesn't bounce? Well, it's steady as a rock. And they CAN be hot temperature-wise for some people, but for me it's a cozy winter bed! Buy the one with the "comfort pad" on top, or it can seem like a foam travel-trailer bed. We didn't, and I had to buy an expensive pad for on top.
I have the expensive one (Temper-pedic) bc they came out with them first, but I'll bet other companies have copied it by now and they are exactly the same!
P.S.: I NEVER could see that fancy bed with the link at the top. |
