I am a new member,I am having problems with my well pump cycling on and off at a rapid pace.
I have the air tank set at 30 to 60 psi,seems to be right,but the pump runs in fast surges. The tank is a bladder type. The presseure was at ~5psi, we charged it to 28-30psi per mfg. and the problems started.
Any help is welcome.
Thx HOAC_Ren
HOAC_Ren,
My dh and I have had a plumbing and heating business for 25+ years and his advise is the following based on your info (he would have like to known brand of tank and what type of pump;
Turn the pump off
Run the water until you have zero pressure out of the faucets or bottom of the tank.
Now check the pressure in your tank with a tire gauge (a digital one works best).
If you have no pressure or get water out of the schrader valve the diaphram is ruptured and you need to replace the tank. Good luck and let us know how it works out for you.
Just a note but was having a similar problem after replacing our pump, come to find out our gage had gone bad, the water pressure in the house surged. The pump itself had gone bad due to a hole rusting thru above the diaphram wich caused it to loose pressure constantly and kept the poor old pump running almost continuously.
We got it going,I uncovered the feed pipes,it seems they had the pressure gauge and the actuator on the wrong sides,so after switching them,it ran right,Thanks for all your help!
