We put a slate floor in our home and I love it, but I'm really at a loss for cleaning it. Most areas I don't mind our subcontractor's suggestion of just water, but in the kitchen that just isn't working. Ideas anyone?
Sorry for the delayed response. I've been busy with a wrestling tournament. The only problem with treating slate like tile is that tile is sealed so it is not porous. Natural slate, regardless of how many coats of sealer, still will soak up just about anything. I've been lucky enough not to spill something like grape juice or coffee but sometimes it seems like just water isn't really getting it clean enough. I would like to use something like Mr. Clean or Simple Green but have noticed that if those products are left to evaporate they leave a residue. It is a beautiful floor but it is less than a year old so I worry about the long term. It was very expensive to install.
Once you do get it clean, is there a product you can use to seal it? I would think you could clean it well with a dilute household cleaner, and then make sure you rinse it thoroughly (so no residue).
i put a slate floor in my dining room. i sealed it with"tilelab matte sealer and finish " . got it at home depot . they reccommend using "tilelab marble and stone cleaner" or grout and tile cleaner. i just use water though. lots of it and a wet vac.
