Phaedra, here is a plan I got off the internet over a year ago: http://www.choosefreedom.com/birdhouse.html . It's very simple, uses one 1"x6" fence board. I made several using this plan, and embellished them a little with found objects and coffee cans (covered the roof in the metal.)

Good luck, and have fun!

The Environmental Protection Agency puts out these birdhouse plans/specs that vary by the type of bird you want to attract.

Georgia Garden: Are you wanting to build a bluebird box or a house shaped birdhouse?

I have several plans that I use as a reference. Let me know.

Sure thing, send me a email at and I will email you a pdf format of one out of a book of mine. I have made two of them. I also have a pattern for one, but I haven't been able to write down the dimensions yet.

I am currently dismanteling an old bird feeder that I am going to make a pattern out of and turn it into a bird house. Once I get the dimensions on it, I will send you those as well. It looks like only a small piece of ply wood is used, some 1x4's and two small pieces of plexiglass for the bird feeder.
