I always did like the brick porches and ours was just concrete and not in the prettiest condition. Well DH and I went out, bought a load of bricks and rented a masonry cutter we finaly did it. Of course we just had to wait till it started getting cold so it took us a while to get this done. We did the top step in one day and got halfway with the bottom step then when we both had a day off with good weather we finsished the bottom step. I absolutly love it and Im so proud of us for completing this.

Next step after we finish putting the sand in is to totaly rip out the concrete walkways and brick those in too altho we are going to use a pattern that dosnt require so many angles. Cant wait for spring because thats probrably when we'll get a chance to do it. Meanwhile Im ready with my sledgehammer to start breaking up the sidewalks.

Nice job !
And to think, you choose one of the most difficult patterns ( herringbone ) to lay and it came out looking great.
Nice tight joints, excellent cuts, level and plumb.

You guys deserve two servings of dessert with extra whipped creme.

"BLUSH" Thanks guys, your making my head grow bigger here, LOL. I had more fun using the masonry cutter than anything. DH laid the pattern out then both of us would measure and I ended up doing at least half the cutting.

Theres just something about power tools that make you want to act like Tim Allen LOL.

If you look in the lower left corner you can see bricks that we layed down in the basketweave(?) pattern. That is the pattern we are going to use for the sidewalks. Sidewalks have to come out because they are sunken towards the house and cracked up all over the place. Cant wait.

Now if I can get DD to clean her room Im going to take a pic and show you the wood laminant floors we put in there over a weekend. Boy are we getting brave in our old age.

.. Dravencat ..

Okey-dokey!
You've completed an absolutely lovely lil porch 'stoop' project, and you've had your toofems work done & ya dry sockets pain relieved, and it's been Spring fer a spell now - - - soooo, where's that concrete-walkway-rippin' & brick-replacement 'project', that was 'next' on the agenda for you guys -?-

(ohhh dear! Don't tell me it's on whole nuther forum!) Feel I'm doin' good to keep up with my favorites along with managing to stumble about and find others to add! .. lol ..

Jes point me in a direction: for if it's been started and a thread exists - I'm relatively sure I can find it .. eventually! .. (hee)

LOL Magpye, we havnt started the ripping out yet. Need to buy another load of bricks and sand and whatnot. Meanwhile we just dumped alot of money in OC, have an S10 Blazer to get an engine in and DH has to fix his mom's Honda(she decided she could drive it even tho it was overheating and blew at the least the head gasket).
I still have my sledgehammer ready and I just might have to get started without him whilst hes working on the automobiles.

Hey .. I understand!

Our 'green crop' sorta has years that it don't sprout very well either! Taking cuttings has been attempted, but Rootone does absolutely nothing. (And 'thinning' out, is NOT a feasible nor viable option, with such seedlings)! .. heehee ..

Take care, and best of wishes on the vehicle engine repairs. If were closer, I'd come 'hep' ...

I'll keep my spy-balls peeled .. in the mean time.
