I thought I would try my hand at crocheting a doily. I have never worked with such a tiny hook before. What do you think so far?

Wow, I'm impressed! I remember all the doilies my grandmother used to make - endless hours making some real beauties, some of which I treasure to this day :) I commend you for bring so brave to pick up those tiny little hooks - my fingers just seem too clumsy to tackle that kind of a project. I had been using size 10-13 knitting needles for the projects I had been working on and just started a new vest with size 6 and 8 with much finer worsted weight yarn - boy what a difference! Fortunately, it's just a vest so there's only a back and two fronts - no sleeves to slow me down :)

yes-it is difficult working with such small stiches - I noticed last night that the second part - which is the middle - has to be redone..uugghh!!!! I've got an extra loop some how!!

Looking good Anita! I used to do doilies, but my eyesight isn't what it used to be. In order to see such tiny stitches now I need very bright direct light, and that tires your eyes too. I'm too impatient these days anyway. LOL If I can't complete a project in under a couple of weeks I lose interest and it gets added to my ever growing stash of projects to complete "someday" :-) Queen of the almost completed project - that would be me!

LOL - I hear that! With such small stiches it's so easy to make mistakes. I think I might get some magnifying glasses for when I work on it.

Absolutely beautiful. I keep telling myself that I am going to get started working on doilies, but with all of the other projects I have going now, I won't let myself. Someday...

It looks very good to me. I used a doily pattern to make a snood for myself, but crocheted it in regular yarn, not the thread. I don't know if my eye sight or my old fingers would let me do the tiny stitches. Now I know why my grandmother switched from doilies to afghans as she got older.

Anita that's amazing! Great work! Are you blind from those itty bitty stitches, I'd need a super magnifying glass to do that work?
It's a beauty for sure!

I'm cross-eyed just looking at it!!!! Beautiful work Anita - I admire you for sticking with it - I don't think I could have done it. I'm having a hard enough time right now with the smaller yarn and needles I'm using to make a vest. I don't think that by the time I'd have the patience to tackle a project like yours, my eyesight would be good enough!

Beautiful work! I tried about a dozen stitches and put it in my sewing box and said "I will finish some day". That was twenty years ago. LOL

I must admit, it is hard on the eyes - I think I might get myself one of those Ott lights with the magnifier..

Anita, something I tried once this winter when our power was out really helped me. Although it didn't magnify the work, I used our "head lamp" so I could continue knitting in the dark because I wasn't ready to go to sleep. You can adjust it so the light zeroes in on your handiwork. At the time I was using a charcoal yarn and it was always hard to see my stitches - but with the head lamp they were 'larger than life'!!

That is a very good idea Rcn - I did just order an Ott lite with magnifier as my reading lamp has just about had it. I'll let you know how that works.

Beautiful work. I have a few of mine still around but time is taking its toll, like everything else LOL!
I remember how odd it was to go from making the threads and tiny hooks and then going back to a sweater or something, seemed like giant hooks and yarn after all that tedius work.
