Janet,
I am in SC and I have this Purple Heart in my back yard. I was told it will stay all year round but it looks dead to me right now. We have had a couple frosts and i'm sure that has what caused this. My question is... Do I cut them back. They look aweful right now, plus I think they are staining the bricks of my planter???
Thanks Pam
Hi Pam,
Yes you can cut it back, the roots are fine and will send up new growth from there next Spring/Summer. They do not stay purple all year, they do die back, so just cut them back and watch them flourish each year. I love mine. I have them in several areas too, and if you can plantSping Bulbs around them and they will cover the dying greenery as they grow in...and my Lantana just about takes over their spot in front, when they are looking pitiful from the drought...
