Ok, I finally got around to taking down my artificial Christmas tree. It was either I take it down or decorate it for Valentine's Day and I wasn't going to do that. :) This is the first year I've had a artificial tree, thus the procrastination about putting it away. It's been sitting in the living room undecorated for about month now. It’s 7.5 feet tall and one of those pre-lit, hinged trees and it’s really very heavy. I've got the storage bags and such, but there has to be a better way of storing these things. I'm thinking of going out and getting some gigantic plastic tote tubs and storing each section in it's own tote. That way I can move it myself (won't need the husband to get it out or put it away for me. It can go to the basement and be safe from moisture and any wayward critter. Those of you that have an artificial tree, how do you store it?

LOL.. OK Diann.. We just took our tree down yesterday! Whew.. at least I think it's down.. I undecorated it and squished all the branches back together and told my DH as I walked out the door to go to work that it was ready to be put away. (I guess I should go look and see if it happened!)

ANYWAY... We actually use the box it came in. I would like a plastic tote for it since I think it would keep the dust out better. Right now I just bag each piece in a garbage bag before I put it into the box. Ours is not prelit and it is a more skinny one but probably 7 foot tall. it breaks down into three pieces. I don't think it's that heavy but then I delegate the DH to carry it up and down. He doesn't really participate in the decorating/undecorating so that's his contribution.. Brute strength!

We use the boxes they came in. (I have four...no, five trees that we put up. Okay, six if you count the one I'm giving away or selling on a garage sale this spring.) The biggest is a "put-it-together" kind; then I have a skinny "hinged" tree in three sections, two smaller 3' trees, and a 2' tree I used in the kitchen.

I never thought about using plastic totes for them, but that probably isn't a half-bad idea. Our attic isn't dusty, so dust or mold/mildew isn't a problem like it might be in a basement.

Jazzpunkin, (btw, great name!)

Well, I went out and bought some plastic totes and wouldn't you know, they are not long enough for the base piece. But I think that if I dismantle the part of the branches on the base piece (which rather defeats the idea of having a hinged tree) I can get it to fit in the tote. I just think it will be safer in a tote than in a bag and since my basement is pre-1900 it does get a bit dampish down there in the summer months and so the box would probably not be the best idea for me. I do need to wrap it in something, most likely bubble wrap, before putting it away. This puppy is heavy and ackward. But I do love it and everyone that sees it can't believe it's fake.. Which was the point. :)

Terry, I've been threatening to get a white tree next year just for the Radko's. After all the hassle with this tree it's made me think again... But a white tree would look really good with all the Radko's, yes?? :)

Our house is a work in progress, so I don't have a tree in every room, yet. ;) My husband complains that I have too much stuff as it is. Remind me to post a picture of my Christmas stuff closet. Remember Mr. Whoopee's closet from the Tennessee Tuxedo cartoon show? Well, Mr. Whoopee hasn't got anything on me... ;) It would just mean more totes.:)

Eureka! I got the tree put away in the totes! I did have to dismantle part of the bottom section of branches, but it's no biggie. Actually, it would probably be a lot easier to put the tree together if I dismantled everything, it wouldn't be nearly as heavy... Anyway, they are ready to be taken to the basement for the next 10 months. :) Yippeee!!!!
