Last summer I decided to kill the front lawn (or should I say, mixed bag of grasses and weeds) and replace it with a low maintenance garden.
I applied roundup and shut off the water. Most of it died as planned. Yet remarkably, with no rain or sprinklers, some of the crabgrass is turning green again! (Someone needs to isolate that gene and put it in other, more desired plants).
In any case, I've zapped the new growth again and have been converting the sprinkler heads to drip heads. Someone suggested I rototill the whole yard. Is this step neccesary? I plan on planting an assortment of shrubs, etc. once I'm pretty sure the surface is weed free - then putting down some clay-like dirt or small gravel in the open spots.
Any tips would be appreciated.
P.S. I might have a mower for sale :)
