I am disabled and can't do a whole lot of physical stuff, nor can I work. My gardening has to be done from a sitting postion. No biggie, as long as I have a hubby and strapping son to do my heavy digging and lugging for me. However, I am also the kind of person who can't just sit still. If I am watching TV, I have to have some project going...and I usually have 3 or 4 going so I don't get bored or burned out on a project. My needlework hobbies include needlepoint, crochet, silk ribbon embroidery, hand embroidery, counted cross stitch and quilting. Here is a needlepoint tapestry I did a while back.

BamaBelle,
I love your iris needlepoint. Did you design it yourself? The colors are wonderful. What brand of yarn do you use? I designed needlepoint canvasas and embroidery designs for YEARS for several shops in Northern California. Kinda get the urge to go back to doing the work. So rewarding and restful. Keep up the beautiful work.

Very beautiful

Wish I had the patience for that, maybe once the kids are grown!

It was from a kit. I don't remember the manufacturer, but I get most of my needlepoint from Herschner's. However, I have seen this same kit at either Walmart or Hobby Lobby.

I've got a computer program that turns any picture into a cross stitch pattern...wish I could find one that turns them into needlepoint patterns. I could probably use the same program, but figuring out what colors of wool to use would be tricky. The cross stitch program tells you what colors to use and even gives the stock number for DMC and one other name brand of embroidery floss. That is what I need for my needlepoint.

Yes, but I did not keep them. I made a pillow for my MIL and a wall hanging for my SIL. I also made a purse for my MIL. I'm workign on two pillows for my son...one is a blue and white ming pattern, the othr is a multipcolored oreintal dragon. He is really into Asian things, so I decorated his room in a blue Asian motif. The only rpoblem is that I need to get new contacts and can't see well enough to do needlepoint right now. I have double vision anyway because of my lupus...but when you add middle aged vision to that, it makes it really hard to see anything that isn't written on Big Chief paper.

Your needle point is beautiful. I love doing needle point;
but I'm not sure why. I have some arthritis in my hands, and
I, too, am suffering from middle age vision. I already wear
contacts, and now reading glasses for close up work. I watch
a lot a reruns of Law and Order, and it never occurred to me
to pull my needle work out into the living room. Thanks for the
idea. Someday I'd like to design my own patterns, taken from pictures of sunsets and the ocean. Post more pictures!

Thank you! Will do...still haven't gotten the new contacts yet, though...and I tore the right one, so it is even harder to see...LOL! Oh well, I"m keeping busy working on quilt tops and gardening.

My hubby goes nuts about me watchign Law and Order reruns that we have seen a hudnred times...but I just love 'em. When we lived with his mom, she had never watched the show. Within a few months, she had the biggest crush on Lenny. When Jerry Orbach died, she really got depressed! When we would go on trips, we would have to set the TV up so she could turn it on and Law and ORder woudl come on. Then, when we moved out, we had to set the TV so it was alwyas on Law and ORder every night. It is the ONLY thing she watches.
