I went to this SG store for the first time. Went to buy glass and they just so happened to be having a class on how to make what they are calling "Garden Totems". I was appalled when I saw what the 8 students were making because most of the ones in the area where I was had used lead came and not foil. And the solder workmanship was very poor. It really looked kinda ugly to my eye. But! ... Done with foil and soldered properly these totems could really be masterpieces.

Leftover foiled and tinned odd shapes of glass soldered to each other and to a copper rod.

Pretty good idea for glass that can't be used for anything else but mosaic pieces ... don't you think?

What a wonderful idea! I've saved it to my idea file. I would leave more "stem" at the bottom though. Either that or solder it to a copper tube & place it over a longer rod.

I agree with you Sandi ... needs more space at the bottom. There's so many neat things a person could do like maybe wrap the pieces around the pole in a less cluttered way instead of being one sided or use all similar purposely cut shapes or build little boxes and stack them or use smaller pieces on thinner poles or rods ... whew! The possibilities are endless! I can't wait to experiment! :) ... vicki

You could save some foiling time and fuse this project instead (if the glass is all compatable)
