'Blue Diamond' Impatiens - Discovered in the summer of 2003
This great blue Impatiens was misspelled from me and several botanists as Impatiens namchabawensis
The correct spell is: Impatiens namchabarwensis and it was discovered in the Namchabarwa canyon in Tibet in the summer of 2003 by Yuan Yong-Ming and Ge Xue-Jun.
This species is growing at an altitude of 930 m in a very limited area. It grows to 40-50 cm high with bright ultramarine-blue flowers.
However, the compact plant of mine reach only 20-25 cm
And yes, this plant - The ‘Blue Diamond’ Impatiens are very rare as the great blue coloured diamonds.
It is a Tibetan species and has explosive seedpods, like the Impatiens glandulifera 'Policeman's Helmet'
It is a perennial over wintering by a thick fleshy rootstock.
Hope you like these photos.
